Last week as a staff exercise we wrote about what motivates us to work toward ending the restavek system of child slavery in Haiti.  My motivation is sitting down talking with children who have been in our Child Advocacy Program for some time and having them be able to express themselves to me in ways they were not able to when they first entered the program.

There was one time that a little boy who had just recently entered the

program came up to me and said ”thank you for what you did for me and my sister.”  My heart just stopped.  I thought “Oh, God, if only this little boy knew that getting a chance to go to school is something he and every child are supposed to have.”  He is thanking me as if he is getting some sort of privilege that he does not deserve. That little boy, he motivates me.
